Czech Media Monitor

About me

Filip Rožánek

Journalist & Media Analyst

For a quarter of a century I have worked with the media, communication technologies and the audiovisual market. I work as a freelancer and am open to working with a range of clients and newsrooms. Since 2019 I have been the permanent editor of the DigiZone section at Lupa.cz, published by Internet Info, which covers electronic media, streaming and the audiovisual market. I follow above all the television and radio markets, streaming, public service media and media legislation.

I teach contemporary media at Metropolitan University Prague and regularly comment on them on television, on radio, in podcasts and at expert debates.

What I work on

I write news, interviews, analyses and explainers about media and technology. I am interested in who owns the media, how they are funded, what rules they operate under and how the habits of their audiences are changing. I have followed the Czech and European audiovisual market for many years, covering TV groups, streaming platforms, digital broadcasting, content distribution and technological change. I also deal with the position, funding and oversight of Czech Television and Czech Radio, media legislation, the decisions of regulators and the European rules that affect the media.

Teaching and public speaking

At Metropolitan University Prague I teach the course Structure of Contemporary Media; I have taught at the Department of Media Studies since 2023. I also teach at the Summer School of Journalism in Havlíčkův Brod. I lecture to students, journalists, diplomats and employees of public institutions, and I moderate expert conferences and discussions on media and technology.

Current work

In English I publish Czech Media Monitor, a project that makes important news about Czech media available to readers abroad. As an external expert I also contribute to international research projects on media plurality, regulation and the functioning of the media.
